Home weight loss tip no. 1 – Make your health a priority

At times we get so busy with our day to day life that we forget to take care of our health. Just think about it for a minute, what is the first thing that you do in the morning? Brush your teeth! No matter how busy we get, we almost never forget to brush our teeth! It has become a part and parcel of our lives.

In the same way you have to make taking care of your health a habit. You have to make it a day to day activity so that you don’t forget it! Just think about the simple things that you can do that will make you more active! It can be as simple as cleaning your dishes, dancing with your partner or doing 100 push ups or crunches per day!

Home weight loss tip no. 2 – Find a reason to lose weight and stay motivated

Find a way to stay focused to your weight loss goal. I’m sure you will agree with me that most of us voluntarily do things that interests or motivates us. Motivation is the key here. Just think about all the good things that comes with losing those excess weight. You will look more attractive and you won’t have to take more than your third of the car seat! You will suffer from fewer diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, liver cirrhosis, arthritis, gout and high blood pressure just to name a few! You can even expect to live a longer life! Find something that motivates you and you will be surprised at how fast you lose weight!

One thing you have to remember is that we don’t gain weight all of a sudden, we gain weight slowly. So our goal also should be to lose weight slowly. But this can be discouraging at times and you may feel you are going nowhere but you must not lose sight of your goal. One way you can help yourself is by keeping track of your progress. Set a goal of the amount of pounds you want to lose a week (one pound per week is considered healthy) and at the end of the week measure yourself to see how close or far away you are from your goal. This can keep you motivated and help you stick to your plan. An even better idea is to measure your weight daily! Be sure to measure your weight in the morning at the same time.

Home weight loss tip no. 3 – Exercise regularly!

I know some of you reading this are probably saying to yourselves that you don’t have the time to exercise! But let’s be frank here, exercise is the fastest way to lose those extra pounds from your body!

It really isn’t as difficult as you think! For example, you can buy simple workout equipment like dumbbells and keep them around the house so that when you watch television you can pick them up and do a few sets of exercise! Or perhaps you could use a exercise bicycle?

If you have stairs at home, use them! Did you know that you can lose about 105 pounds by going up and down the stairs for just 15 minutes! Just 15 minutes a day and at the end of the week you will lose at least 735 calories!

Don’t exercise too much though! If you exercise too much, it will increase your appetite and you may end up eating more calories than you intended to lose! Moderate and regular exercise will make sure you use up the stored energy in your body without increasing your appetite.

Home weight loss tip no. 4 – Eat right and avoid junk foods!

One of the main reasons why people can’t lose weight even though they exercise is their habit of eating junk foods like soft drinks, candy, ice cream, and pastries. This will get you nowhere! You’re basically putting back the Calories that you have worked so hard to lose thorough exercise!

Make sure you home is full of fresh fruits, whole grains, veggies and nuts. Don’t skip your meals! Make it a habit to eat three to six times a day on a regular time. Choose a diet that you can follow without undue punishment or undue cost. Make it compatible with your current eating habits and likes. You don’t necessarily have to stop eating the foods you cherish, but it is necessary that you regulate the amount of them that you eat. Once you have lost the unnecessary pounds, you should never go back to your old excessive diet. You have to learn to live on a balanced diet otherwise you will put back all those weights you worked so hard to lose. Your diet should contain all the basic food groups-meat, milk, vegetables, fruits and cereals.

Home weight loss tip no. 5 – Count your Calories

The logic is simple here, if you want to lose weight, you have to take in less Calories than what you spend through your total daily activities- basic metabolism, heat loss, work and exercise. If you want to lose those excess fat you have to temporarily reduce your Calorie intake to a level less than your Calorie expenditure. In this way fats stored in your body will be used up and your weight will come down.

If you take in more calories than you require, you will end up storing them in the body as fat. Did you know that each pound of fat represents about 3500 Calories?

A good weight loss diet should provide at least 1200-1800 Calories a day. If you find it too difficult to count the Calories, just remember the cardinal principle, “Cut down, not out”.

Home weight loss tip no 6. – Avoid crash diets

You should know how many pounds you want to lose and how long it will take. One pound of fat represents 3500 Calories. Nutritionists recommend that a good weight-loss diet should work towards losing one to two pounds of weight a week. So that means, to lose one pound of fat in a week, you have to reduce your total intake by 3500 Calories a week. On the other hand, crash diets suggest a reduction in the caloric intake by 2500 Calories a day- you’ll be practically starving yourself and your diet will be deficient in essential minerals and vitamins! Some crash diets even use diuretic drugs, which basically dehydrate your body but leave the fat intact where it was!

Just remember one thing, there is no shortcut to losing weight in a healthy way. You weight loss plan should work towards a gradual decrease in weight.

Home weight loss tip 7. – Deal with your stress!

Sometimes life seems to go totally out of control and everything feels just too much! With life, comes stress and there is no avoiding it. But you have to learn to deal with it. Some people use food as a comfort or compensation for feelings of frustration, unhappiness, or worry! This will get you nowhere and in fact make you more depressed so that you end up eating more and more.

Find a solution to your problems. If you can’t do it alone then try talking to someone you trust. But if you still can’t deal with your emotions then you may need help from a counselor. Just remember one thing, eating is not the solution to your emotional problems.

Home weight loss tip no 8. – Don’t blame your genetics

It is true that genetics play a role in deciding a person’s body weight, but in most cases a person is overweight because of his eating habits and lifestyle. Your genetics just puts you at risk of being overweight but at the end of the day, it’s your lifestyle that determines how much you will weigh!

That’s all for today! Stay positive, stay focused and assume responsibility for your weight! You can do it if you set your mind to it.
